Back in March we told you about Teresa Deng and her incredible 'Algae Bio-Fuel' science project that earned the grade 11 Watson student a trip to the Canada-Wide Science Fair.

Deng just returned from the event in Montreal where her project was well accepted by the national judges.

"Teresa did incredible," beamed teacher Kal Lefebvre. "She ended up coming home with a bronze medal in the senior excellence category so we're very proud of her. We weren't sure how she would do with all the phenomenal projects that were there so good for her."

She created algae herself and then processed it and ended up making oil from it.

That oil that she made can be used in airplanes and cars Lefebvre stated back in March when Deng won the regional Horizon School Division fair in Strasbourg.

Lefebvre says Deng's project is an extraordinary show of science.

"Oh it's phenomenal, to take that kind of initiative that Theresa has shown, the need to learn more and run with it, it's just unbelievable. She's done such great things, all on her own just taking the initiative and going with it."

Lefebvre says he was blown away by all the young talent at the national level.

"The caliber of Teresa's project and the other winning projects were so advanced that they actually were creating or developing new products on their own. They star their young minds developing technology so that they can build a lifetime of research and improvements in many areas."

Deng's work is catching the eyes of university recruiters as well, she is getting scholarship offers from post-secondary facilities across Canada including University of Western Ontario in London and Ottawa University.
