A big shoutout to a pair of triples curling teams from the area who captured gold and silver at this weekend’s provincial U12 and U15 Triples Cup competition in Unity.

The U12 Sharp Shooters consist of Chloe Hogemann, Cooper Muggli, and Teagan Bernhard, coached by Kyle Muggli. Teagan filled in this weekend for regular Annie Rude who was unable to make the competition this weekend.

The trio has been curling together for 15 months, trekking to various Triples spiels around the provincial, including last year’s provincials in Humboldt.

The Sharp Shooters wrapped up their pool in second place after a win and two losses put them in a three-way tie. It was then on to the 1 vs 2 pool crossover game which they won, putting them into the gold final. They captured victory over their opponents from Outlook with a successful draw-to-the-button tiebreaker.

Their counterparts, the U15 girls Curl Power squad, composed of Payton Muggli, McKenna Hogemann, Kaylee Bernhard and coach Amy Hogemann, mixed it up in a 16-team bracket format. The squad has been together since fall 2022 and has criss-crossed the province. They are also teammates in the Humboldt Junior League, having won the title for the past three years. The team has also been part of SHSAA District competition quartets.

The trio won all three of its games against competitors from La Ronge, Outlook and Saskatoon. That put them in the final against Cool Shots, a team from the Leader area who captured the last two provincial championships.

Curl Power went into the final two ends having split the first pair. Unfortunately, the Muenster and Humboldt club fell just short of the win, but they captured the silver in the process.

Special thanks to the Humboldt Curling Club and the Muenster Curling Club for helping the teams and for their support of youth curling.
