With Remembrance day next week, more and more Humboldt residents are wearing poppies.

The Poppy is worn to honour the soldiers who fought for Canadian freedom in war conflicts around the world.

Rev. Al Hingley describes some of the rules behind wearing a poppy.

"The poppy should be worn on your lapel, or your jacket on your left side, which is, not where your heart is I understand biologically and medically and all that, but to all of us your heart is on your left side. So you wear your poppy on your left side."

Rev. Hingley explains the donations process for the Poppy fund.

"The interesting thing is we don't sell them. We make them available, and people donate, and hence we have money for the Poppy fund, which is used in support of veterans for the many needs that many of them have."

Rev. Hingley talks about the importance of the Remembrance day ceremony.

"I read recently that there was a grandfather taking his grandson to the community Remembrance service. The little boy saying 'Grandpa why are we doing this?' And Grandpa said 'We're doing this for them for what they did for us.'"

Rev. Hingley says the Remembrance day ceremony is as important as any, especially when it comes to educating the younger generations.

"If you push it away, and pretty soon, it will not be remembered. And people will go through experiencing it again. Because as the philosopher said 'if we don't remember, we're doomed to repeat.'"

This year's Humboldt Remembrance day service will be held at St. Augustine Hall.

Those attending are asked to be seated by 10:30.
