A former Teen-Aid educator in Humboldt will be the guest speaker during the annual general meeting of the Carlton Trail Pro-Life organization.

Tom Simes taught in Humboldt from 1989 to 1992 and has now been in the field for 27 years. He has also turned to a passion of film making which he teaches to this day in Saskatoon.

He feels his experiences will be of interest to attendees on Monday evening at the Legion.

"What I've learned over the last 26-27 years in education and in film I think is really informative and I think they're very excited to hear me talk about I guess how Teen-Aid shaped me as a teacher and a film maker."

He has produced films such as Season of Dreams(2007), relating to the province of Saskatchewan's love for football, Underdogs(2010), a story following the 2010 national champion University of Saskatchewan's men's Husky basketball team.

The film most in line with the Teen-Aid mandate is probably Grace Wins(2017). This feature chronicles the life of four teenagers and some life changing choices they are forced to make in their senior year of high school.

"I am going to share my experiences as a Teen-Aid teacher and how that really formed my education career. I became a character educator, not just a teacher of subjects," Simes added.

"Another thing I am going to talk about is just how my Teen-Aid experience really shaped how I thought philosophically."

Tickets are $25/adults and $12/students. The AGM begins at 6 o'clock at the Humboldt Legion. The deadline to register your attendance is the end of Friday. Tickets are available at Shopper's, St. Augustine Parish or by calling Melanie Ramsay at 682-4605.

You can hear more from Simes below in his interview with Bolt FM's Clark Stork.
