May 14th marks the beginning of Canada Road Safety Week, and coincidentally that is the final date to sign the e-petition E 2005 which seeks to introduce national legislation impacting the truck industry.

The petition was started by Alberta resident Pattie Fair who lost her husband in a collision involving a semi-transport. Since that time, Fair has been on a campaign, along with families of the Humboldt Broncos, to see permanent changes brought to the trucking industry. Lyle and Carol Brons of Lake Lenore have been strong advocates supporting these changes. In brief, the petition seeks to ensure that truck driver training is made standard across the country and that truck driving be recognized as a trade to heighten the profile and access to supports for the industry.

Parties interested in signing the petition can go to the Humboldt Broncos web page or connect at https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-2005. The petition is open for signature until 12:57 pm on May 14th.
