Early evening on Monday, September 24, emergency crews were dispatched underground for a fire at the Nutrien Lanigan Potash Mine.

101 employees were underground at the time of the fire. Employees sought shelter in the refuge stations, which have controlled air flow.

Emergency crews proceeded underground and once it was safe to do so, air quality testing was done before allowing employees to evacuate the refuge stations.

At approximately 6:30 pm employees began to leave the underground site. There have been no reports of injuries and all 101 employees have been accounted for.

Will Tigley, a spokesperson for Nutrien, stated that this would be considered a success when referring to the safety of the employees and crews that responded.

The fire is still under investigation.
