The work of Safe Communities Humboldt and Area extends over a wide variety of interests, and that work would not be possible without grants and sponsorships. The City of Humboldt recognized the value of the organization with a grant of $15,000 to support their efforts. The presentation at City Hall happened on July 5.

Executive Director of Safe Communities Humboldt and Area Shari Hinz is appreciative of the funding provided by the city. Hinz commented, "We've been fortunate that the City of Humboldt has provided support to our organization since its inception back in 2005, and for 2019, the city approved a donation of $15,000 in their budget."

Hinz says that the funding is critical in covering the core operating costs for the year. While the organization seeks grant opportunities and corporate funding for some of its programming, the core functions of the organization are provided for through the annual grant.

Safe Communities' spring programming, including the school-based PARTY program, has wrapped up for the year. The positive ticketing initiative continues to run throughout the summer. Hinz and Safe Communities now have their eyes set on the fall.

"In September, Rail Safety Week will be taking place near the end of the month. October will be a very busy month; we will have Progressive Agriculture Safety Day on October 2 at Humboldt Public School, including grades one to four students from the Public School and grades one to six from Bruno School. We will also have a distracted driving initiative during National Teen Driver Safety Week with Humboldt Collegiate grade nine and ten students."

Other upcoming events will include a seniors' symposium slated for early November in Muenster and programming around suicide prevention in the works for later in the year.
