A Lake Lenore man is being considered a hero Wednesday.

Tuesday afternoon, Darcy Weber was hauling grain to the Bunge elevator at Dixon when he witnessed a white Chysler Intrepid lose control and plunge into a slough off Highway 5.

A day later, he said that his instincts then simply took over.

"They got cut off at that intersection by the elevator there and she ran into the slough there. I was coming to the approach so I went around it, jumped out of the truck, kicked their window in and pulled them out of the car."

Weber laughed at the comment of hero on the phone, he said he never thought twice about helping the couple who were shaken but otherwise okay.

He added that there isn't really time to think about your own safety, essentially number one being, how thick is the ice this early in the winter.

"Not at the time but after you think about it and you are sitting there wondering well how thick was the ice and stuff? I don't know, you just don't think about that stuff I guess."

With winter now upon us the roads will have many treacherous conditions around the region. For Weber, this was just another day that could have turned tragic. He hopes that anyone else would do the same thing.

"You are not thinking something like that is going to happen, you've got to got what you've got to do."
