Richard Reineke
March 29, 1928 - August 5, 2017

It is with a sense of sorrow that the family of Richard Reineke wishes to announce his peaceful passing on Saturday, August 5, 2017,to be with the Lord at 89 years of age. Richard’s life was filled with a deep love for his faith, his family and his farm. He will be dearly missed for both his humility and his humor. The loss of his serene wisdom and gentle manner leaves a hole in our hearts we cannot hope to fill, but we are comforted in the certainty Richard has joined the heavenly hosts where we will surely meet again in God’s glory. Richard, one of eight children, was born on the homestead on March 29, 1928 near Carmel, SK, to Charles and Mary (nee Jurgens) Reineke. Raised on the family farm, he developed a deep love for nature and country life and eventually took over the family farm as the rest of the family reached out in various directions. Richard met and married the love of his life, Olga Kehrig on January 30, 1961, and there they raised their five beautiful daughters: Eileen, Lois, Maureen, Judy and Laura. Over the next 40 plus years, Richard saw his family grow with the addition of five sons-in-law and 17 grandchildren. Through it all, his devotion to his Lord, his love of family and his passion for his farm set a beautiful example of a life well lived, full of love, laughter and joy. Richard grew up near Mount Carmel, where he unfailingly attended the annual pilgrimage for over 80 years, right until his health no longer allowed. His quick smile, quiet devotion and unvarnished faith was a welcome sight to generations of fellow pilgrims. In 2005, Richard and Olga moved into Humboldt where they enjoyed 10 happy years in retirement; gardening, puzzle making, attending mass and hosting family and friends in their cozy condo. With the health challenges of advancing age, they moved to Samaritan Place in Saskatoon, an innovative retirement home where those with differing health care needs can continue to remain together as a couple. Richard’s passions in life were easily recognizable; a deep faith, a loving family and a prosperous farm. He was an avid wood and metal worker. His hand-made rocking cradles welcomed each new grandchild, who would soon come to cherish the dollhouse that followed. Richard is survived by his cherished wife Olga; daughters: Eileen (Jim) Chuey, [children, Andrea, Jennifer, and Katie]; Lois (Ted) Brockman, [children, Megan, Katrina, and Jillian]; Maureen (Michael) Kilburn, [children, Chelsea, Rebecca, and Rachael]; son-in law, Hilary LaBrash, [children, Danielle, Miranda, Justin, and Adam]; and daughter Laura (Mike) Cey, [children, Reagan, Paige, Mackenzie, and Jacob]. He was predeceased by his daughter Judy LaBrash (2012); parents: mother, Mary (1951), and father, Charles (1986); and by his seven brothers and sisters. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, SK, on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Michael Yaremko and concelebrated by Fr. Emile April. Others taking part were: Mike Cey and Jacob Cey, crossbearer and altar servers; Eileen Chuey and Lois Brockman, scripture readers; Maureen Kilburn and Laura Cey, intentions; LaBrash family, giftbearers; Ted Brockman, eucharistic minister; Reagen, Page and Mackenzie Cey, memorial table attendants; Laura Cey, urnbearer.
