Richard Leo Pitka
July 16, 1927 – November 21, 2018

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear brother and friend Richard Pitka. Richard is survived by his sister Louise Brecht and family; brother Patrick (Karen) Pitka and family; and sister-in-law Violet Pitka and family. Richard was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Margaret (nee Hamers) Pitka; brothers Maurice Pitka and David Pitka; and brother-in-law Gabe Brecht. Richard was born on the farm near Romance SK, the oldest of five children. He attended Korbel Elementary School until the end of grade eight. Richard farmed alongside his father and brother Maurice, until he bought his own farm near LeRoy SK. Richard was a great musician, playing his accordion and guitar in a band called the Romance Harmonizers. The other members of his band were his brother David who played saxophone, trumpet, violin and banjo, and brother Patrick who played base violin and drums. They played for many dances and house parties in the communities of Englefeld, Watson, LeRoy, and Greenwater Lake. Besides farming Richard started a business selling sewing machines, known as Pitka's Sewing Machine Sales and Service. He started out selling Phaff and later Genome machines. He was known in the community as the Doctor of sewing machines. He could fix any make of machine. If he couldn't fix it, he would try to sell you a new one. He was a good business man. The family are very thankful for the care given to Richard at Evergreen Country Home in LeRoy with Special Thanks to Brenda Nabseth. Thank you to Humboldt District Hospital for their compassionate care in Richards final hours and a very Special Thank You to John Kirzinger, Richard was blessed to have you as a friend and neighbour. John truly lived the second greatest commandment "Love your neighbour, as yourself.” A Celebration of Life was held at Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Englefeld, SK. on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Francis Akomeah. Others taking part were: Pat Pitka, crossbearer; John Kirzinger and Shari-Lynn Turgeon, scripture readers; Karen Pitka, intentions; Violet Pitka and Janis Campbell, giftbearers; members of Holy Guardian Angels Parish Choir, music ministry; Randy and Brenda Strunk, memorial table attendants. An Honor Guard was formed by members of the Knights of Columbus. Active Pallbearers were Dwayne Pitka, Jason Pitka, Michael Brecht, Doug Brecht, John Kirzinger and Ron Pfneisl. Interment followed at Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Cemetery, Englefeld, SK.
