Heroes come in many different forms.

To support heroes such as first responders and war veterans, the Wounded Warriors Weekend Fundraiser made a pit stop in Humboldt at Canadian Tire on Friday. Gordon Joyes was on hand selling raffle tickets to raise money for Wounded Warriors Weekend, which is an annual event that hosts heroes who sacrificed so much for us.

"We bring in up to 60 people for a two week camp on Tobin Lake. They get some relaxation, fishing, golfing therapy, and get to know each other," said Joyes.

Wounded Warriors provides medical and mental health needs to first responders and veterans across the country. Some of the proceeds also go towards providing service dogs to those challenged with physical or mental wounds sustained in duty.

"We've had some great success stories with service dogs. One of them, we gave a guy a service dog and at first, he wouldn't even leave his house. Then I met him two years later and he was able to talk in front of 400 people and tell his whole story."

This year's raffle grand prize is a Lund WC14 Boat with a 9.9 Merc Motor and Shorelander Trailer. Other prizes consisted of a Yamaha 50 cc quad, a Pelican Kayak, and two Cabela's gift cards. There is also a 50/50 add on as tickets were $5 apiece. With raffle tickets selling at one for $20 or four for $50, COVID-19 has not slowed the generation of funds.

"Everywhere I've gone, I've exceeded expectations in sales. So I think because of COVID-19, people can't spend their money on other things. So they have generously given it to us," stated Joyes.

The draw date for the raffle is September 26 at the Chamber of Commerce in Nipawin.
