Humboldt's Special Olympic Floor Hockey Team has added another accolade to their long list of accomplishments.

Special Olympics Saskatchewan announced on Thursday, October 8th, that Humboldt's Floor Hockey Team has been named the Team of the Year in Saskatchewan.

Special Olympics Humboldt held a small, socially distant gathering of the players on October 8th at the Pioneer Hotel. The team gathered in anticipation as they watched the award presentation feed on an internet broadcast.
The team rejoiced with hands up high in celebration as Special Olympics Saskatchewan announced they were the Team of the Year.

"For this group, it was a year and a half to two years of hard work, dedication, and commitment, not only to the sport but to each other as a team. We are extremely proud of them," said Coach, Brian Reifferscheid.

In addition to the team being named Team of the Year in the province. Coach Reiffersched, to his surprise, was named the Coach of the Year.

"I never expected that to be happening. There's a lot of people in Saskatchewan that spend a lot of time volunteering and committing their time to the sport. That award to me is going to be shared among everyone in the province and their efforts towards Special Olympics."

The Team of the Year Award culminates what was a very successful 2020 for Humboldt Floor Hockey Team. The group took home the Bronze medal at the 2020 Canada Winter Games held in February in Thunder Bay, ON.
