I’m getting married later this year, and I’m discovering that wedding planning is changing my life in a way I didn’t expect.

I’ve started using Pinterest.

I first dabbled in Pinterest years ago, didn’t find it particularly interesting and abandoned it.

But it seems the app is essential in wedding planning. It has tips for decorating, food, outfits, the works.

The only niggle is that once you start searching for these things, Pinterest assumes you're the bride.

When I went to the main part of the app last night - where it shows you what it thinks you’re interested in - I got posts of “24 Beach Wedding Shoes That Will Inspire,” and women’s undergarments and so many recipes for fruit-infused water.

I decided to take action. I pinned the entire The Expanse sci-fi book series (and the TV show), and The Dagger and the Coin fantasy series, as well as every album from the metal band Mastodon.

I started getting pictures of medieval armour and weaponry. That’s not particularly useful in my day to day life, but hey, it was a start and they looked rad.

However Pinterest then combined my apparent love of swords and dragons with my pins of barbecue chicken recipes to show me “A Souffle of Suspicion: A French Bistro Mystery” (includes recipes!) by the award-winning author of “A Deadly Eclair.”

The cover features a cat pawing at a table with a flaming souffle, a spilled glass of red wine and a knife.

If I’m honest, I really want to read that book.

Well played, Pinterest.
