The need for mentors in the area has increased of late, but Jodie Hergott of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Humboldt and Area (BBBS) may have some solutions.

Awareness for the organization will be the focus this month, and many fundraisers are in the works.

"The waitlist now stands at 24 kids. We're always looking for mentors, but the need has increased," says Hergott.

A new version of the classic game of Bingo will offer a musical twist this Friday, September 7th at 7 pm at the Bella Vista Inn. Participants in Music Bingo will hear a snippet of a song, and if the song title appears on their card, they can mark it off.

BBBS fundraising will take a tasty turn throughout September as well. The Big Brother Burger Combo Challenge will take place this month at three local restaurants: Johnny's Bistro, Boston Pizza and Rookie's at the Bella Vista.

Each restaurant has created their own version of a Big Brother Combo that they will be serving, and four dollars from every combo sold will go to BBBS. Two awards will be given for 'Most Delicious' burger and for 'Most Burger Combos Sold'.

Humboldt will be decked out in the signature BBBS purple colour on September 18th in honour of BBBS Day.

"We are working with a number of retailers around town, and we're going to put a little purple hue on the town in recognition of mentoring and making a difference."

The annual West Jet draw will be taken on the 28th of September, and one lucky winner will receive the grand prize of two tickets to anywhere West Jet flies.
