Signs have gone missing, and in some cases have been relocated, in the RM of Leroy and the village of Drake.

Humboldt and Lanigan RCMP reported the vandalism of an illuminated stop sign at the junction of the north-south and east-west access roads to the BHP Jansen Lake mine site. Because of the volume of heavy traffic near the mine site, the sign was equipped with warning illumination and a solar panel. For this reason, the sign would be significantly more costly than a conventional stop sign, according to Cst. Jeff Applegate of the Humboldt RCMP detachment.

In the village of Drake around April 23rd, a rash of stolen and switched signs triggered an RCMP investigation. In some cases, stop and yield signs were stolen, while in other cases, the perpetrators took the time to replace the signs using bolts to places where they otherwise should not be. The remaining signs were not defaced; the locations were simply switched. Cst. Applegate acknowledges it may be part prank, but in the cases of the missing signs, it's part theft.

Investigations in each of these cases are ongoing. Any member of the public with any information is asked to contact the Humboldt and Lanigan RCMP detachments at 306-682-2535 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
