Rose Marie Strueby
July 30, 1943 – December 13, 2023

The death of Rose Marie (nee Korte) Strueby occurred on Friday, December 13, 2023, at St Mary’s Villa in Humboldt with her ‘boys’ by her side. Rose Marie Brigitta Korte was born on July 30, 1943, in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. She was the fourth of seven children born to John and Cecilia (nee Cales) Korte. Rose Marie received all her schooling at the Monastery School in Muenster. After graduating from high school, she attended Saskatoon Business College and received a secretarial certificate. She also managed to get in some casual school bus driving during this time. Rose Marie then worked a few months for Korte's Garage, owned by her father and uncle. In 1964, she accepted a job as assistant secretary for the Humboldt School Unit and worked there until her first child was born. Rose Marie was a member of the Korte Singers, who, in 1965, recorded their one and only record album, Good News Kortes A-Comin’. The Korte Singers travelled across Saskatchewan filling many hearts with hours of delightful singing. On a blizzardy January 20, 1967, Rose Marie married Maurice Strueby. Rose Marie and Maurice lived in Moseley for three years and in 1970 they moved to Yellow Creek. Another move was in the plan in 1972 when the family moved to Domremy. In 1976 the Strueby family moved to Muenster, and they raised their family in the home Rose Marie grew up in. Rose Marie was a fulltime mother until all the children were in school. She then worked at Al’s Welding and Electric as a secretary. In 1979, Rose Marie accepted a position at St. Peter's Press and the Prairie Messenger as typesetter and secretary. In 1990, she accepted the position of manager of St. Peter's Press and held that position for six years. On April 20, 2001, Rose Marie and Maurice accepted a management position for the Holiday Retirement Company managing several senior retirement homes across Canada. This allowed them to continue farming during the spring and summer. Rose Marie and Maurice then started to spend part of the winters in Arizona. While in Arizona Rose Marie enjoyed art classes, golf, sightseeing, the warm weather, family, and friends. Rose Marie was always passionate about her family, community, music, and anything that allowed her to spend time outdoors, whether that was gardening, playing a sport, tobogganing, or skating with her grandchildren. Rose Marie also participated in softball and curled most of her adult life. She was a member of the Korte Family singers and loved travelling across the countryside singing and travelling with her sisters and brothers-in-law. Wherever there was music, there was Rose Marie. It did not matter where she lived, she was always actively involved in the music ministry and led the choir at St. Peter’s Cathedral. She could still carry a tune leading up to her last days at St. Mary’s Villa. Rose Marie will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family: Reg (Nadine) Strueby of Regina and their daughters, Avah and Mabel; Ron (Jennifer) Strueby of Airdrie and their children, Ethan and Olivia; James Brule of Regina and his son Justin; Ray (Janel) Strueby of Regina; and Rose Marie’s sisters. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Maurice Julius Strueby; her daughter, Roxanne Brule; parents, John and Cecilia (nee Cales) Korte; brother Benno Korte; and her sister Cecilia Nakonechny.
