With the dust settling from the provincial election, it appears that the status quo has been maintained from the date the legislature was dissolved. The Sask Party has taken 48 of the 61 available seats, while the NDP has retained the 13 it held prior to the elections. However, not all of the incumbents from either side have been returned.

Election decisions remained murky in a handful of very closely contested constituencies on election night. As results from mail-in ballots have been coming in, the picture is coming into greater relief.

Ryan Meili declared an early victory in his riding of Saskatoon Meewasin before the count was completed. A little predictive math brought him to the podium to make the statement on October 28. A day later, Sask Party candidate Rylund Hunter conceded the seat. With the win, Meili has expressed his intent to stay on as Opposition leader.

A key loss for the Saskatchewan Party came in the Regina constituency of Regina University with Aleana Young defeating one time cabinet minister Tina Beadry-Mellor who conceded in a social media post on October 29.

Elsewhere, the NDP’s Matt Love has been declared winner in Saskatoon Eastview over Sask Party candidate Chris Guerette, who was quickly ushered in to replace Daryl Cooper, dropped after a social media scandal.

Jennifer Bowes of the NDP was declared winner in Saskatoon University over Sask Party contender Eric Olauson. The declarations have been made following the second preliminary count which began on October 28. The final count happens on November 7.
