The Humboldt Broncos will have representation at the section camp for Team Canada West of the 2019 World Jr. A Challenge.

Broncos' forward and 16-year-old rookie Karter McNarland has been named as one of the 44 Jr. A players invited to the selection camp for this year's Team Canada West tryouts. 23 skaters will make the roster.

The list of athletes was released on Tuesday, November 19th. Two skaters from the SJHL will be taking part in the camp, as Nic Porterfield of the Melville Millionaires will join McNarland. The camp will provide another opportunity for McNarland to showcase his skill in front of many watching eyes who will scout the camp, as he represents the Humboldt Broncos.

"It's a great opportunity and accomplishment for Karter here as a young player, being a 2003 born player, and getting this opportunity to go to for the selection camp for Team Canada West beginning in December," said Broncos Head Coach and Assistant Coach for Team Canada West, Scott Barney. "He deserves the opportunity. It will be good for him to get seen by not only people throughout Canada, but also, universities in the States will be there watching, and NHL scouts."

The positive outlook of eyes that will be taking in the selection camp is not the only benefit for McNarland in attending the camp. He will also gain valuable experience as a 16-year-old throughout the camp while skating with some of the best Jr. A player in the country.

"Here in the SJHL, we are more known as a 19 and 20-year-old league. This roster for the World Jr. A Challenge is comprised of mostly 18-year-olds and you can carry five 19-years-olds. It's going to be good for him. It could be an eye-opener, but I think he will do well at this level. I think he will open some eyes not only for him, but for opportunities down the road for himself, and hopefully, he turns everyone's eyes enough to be able to make the roster."

McNarland currently has 20 points (5g-15a) through 26 games with the Humboldt Broncos in his rookie year. He sits 3rd in the league in rookie points, 2nd in rookie assists, and 1st in rookie powerplay points in the SJHL.

The selection camp will take place in early December before the puck drops on the 2019 World Jr. A Challenge on December 7th in Dawson Creek, BC.
