Genevieve Doetzel
June 17, 1936 – January 6, 2024

Genevieve Paulina Doetzel, 87 years, of Humboldt, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Gen was born on June 17, 1936 in Humboldt to Lawrence and Melvina (nee Kosokowsky) Germain. She grew up on the farm near Carmel, attending Hillsley School. Over the years, Gen had various jobs including homemaker, bus driver, commercial cleaner, and seamstress. She was also proficient in cake decorating and taught classes in decorating at Carlton Trail Community College. She sewed beautiful Barbie doll clothes, did alterations and mending, and enjoyed playing the organ. She was a faithful member of the CWL, first in Bruno and then in Humboldt, recently receiving her 70 year pin. On December 18, Gen moved to the Eston Jubilee Lodge and truly enjoyed her short time there with the exceptional care she received. Her family is very grateful to the staff there for making her last weeks so comfortable for all of them. Gen will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family: son Kieran (Debbie) Doetzel and son Kodie of Lipton; daughter Jacqueline (Shawn) Oswald of Kindersley and family Kristin of Regina and Andrew of Kindersley; and Travis (Tamra) Doetzel of Arrowwood, AB and family Ethan (Jessie) and son Riley of Strathmore, AB and Selinah (John) and children Rumor, Anna, Zoey and Lexi of Calgary, AB; brother-in-law John Greer of Windsor, ON; three Godchildren: Greg Germain, Gerard Germain and Germaine Freistadt; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gen was predeceased by her parents Lawrence and Melvina Germain; and all of her siblings: Agnes (Nick) Witt, Leo (Eleanor) Germain, Madeline Germain, Emma (Rudy) Schidlowsky, Fred (Margaret) Germain, Mary (Eugene) Freistadt, Anne (Roman) Stumborg, Theresa (Walter Kennedy) (Gabe) Kloshinsky, Loretta (Lorne Davis) Greer, Martha (infancy), Leonard (infancy), John (infancy), Rudy Germain, Andrew (infancy) and Joseph (infancy). The Funeral Mass for Gen was held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt. Interment followed at the St. Augustine Columbarium. Memorial donations in Gen’s memory may be made to Eston Caring Hands (Box 244, Eston, SK, S0L 1A0). A recording of the Funeral Mass for Gen will be available for viewing on the Malinoski & Danyluik website until Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
