The Government of Saskatchewan is reminding both young workers, employers and parents that prior to working, they must first take the Young Worker Readiness Certificate Course.

Young workers are described as those ages 14 and 15.

The course must successfully be completed to obtain the certificate that gets presented to their employer, along with a parental consent form.

"It is exciting to see young people starting work over the holiday break and we want them to be safe," Labour Relations Minister Don Morgan stated. "The readiness course allows young people to enter the workforce prepared with the knowledge to be successful."

The course is designed to teach young workers about their rights and responsibilities in relation to health, safety and employment standards in the workplace.

Included in the restrictions for young workers is also the inability to work after 10:00pm on a school night. They cannot work prior to classes during the school day, and are not allowed to work in excess of 16 hours during the school week.

Any school breaks, including Christmas and summer holidays are exempt from those restrictions.
