One of the more popular community events in Wynyard is returning on Thursday.

The Festival of Wreaths is back with live and silent auctions taking place.

"This is our 7th annual Festival of Wreaths hosted by the hospital auxiliary," says Chair Diane Dalman. "We are sponsored by Scotiabank and they will match some of our funds. We have generous donations from members of the community."

"It's a nice evening and is also kind of a kick-off to Christmas."

Dalman added that there is a wide variety of items to bid on.

"This year we have beautiful wreaths, Christmas trees, puddings, gift baskets, all sorts of things," she said.

The event will take place at the Wynyard Civic Centre and begin with some music, according to Dalman.

"A little choral group of children that comes and sings about three songs at the beginning," she explained. "Gordon Chorney is our auctioneer this year. The live auction begins at 7 and the doors open at 6 because we have lots of silent auction items to bid on this year."

Proceeds from the event stay in the community to help support health care through the auxiliary.

"All the money we raise goes to the hospital to purchase equipment or refurbish rooms."

Last year, the event pulled in around $13,000 to push their six-year total past the $75,000 mark.
