Early season Christmas tunes rang through the Royal Canadian Legion in Humboldt on Thursday night, as Canadian fiddle champion Scott Woods returned to the city.

Thursday's show was a bit different from his normal appearances in the city, says Woods.

"We played our Old Time Christmas Show. It's the first time in about 14 years we have had a Christmas show playing across Western Canada."

Woods says that typically they haven't done a Christmas show in Western Canada due to often hazardous road conditions, as they drive a bus to their venues.

He added that it is always good to come back to Humboldt.

"They're a great crowd, a very responsive crowd. Different crowds react differently to parts of the show. Sometimes you tell a joke and it is just crickets," he explained. "Humboldt is always in for a good time. They love to see the show and they're kind of used to my dry sense of humour."

The all ages show is shown in its performers, with the band bringing along a teenage member of the group.

"His name is Leo Stock. He just turned 13 years old. Very intelligent, very talented. He plays his fiddle and step dances and sings, and I tell you, he steals the show every night."

The band puts in quite a few miles on the trip, as they play a show every night until December 17. They are stopping in Melfort for a show Friday night before stops in Battlefords and Lashburn before heading to Alberta.

Once the dead of winter exits, Woods will be taking to the road once again with a brand new show.

"Our new show hitting the road in spring is called Fiddling Up a Storm," he noted. "That show will be hitting the road in April and heading out this way in probably May and June."
