Following the extremely cold temperatures in Humboldt and surrounding area, snow is on the way.

A winter storm watch is in effect for Humboldt, Wynyard, Wadena, Lanigan, and Foam Lake. These communities could receive 15 to 25 cm of snow over the next 48 hours.

In a weather statement from Environment Canada, the storm will be caused by a low-pressure system forming over central British Columbia. It's going eastward over the next 48 hours. As the system moves into Saskatchewan, it will spread over an area of moderate to heavy snow along the Yellowhead Highway corridor. With the snow, the area will see winds get up to 30 or 40 kilometres an hour.

"With the snow and wind combined there will probably be little to zero visibility at times with blowing snow as well, so it will also have a big impact on travel through the region," said Brad Vrolijc, Lead Forecaster for Environment Canada.
