For their work in supporting organizations in and around Watson, the Watson Community Club picked up an award at Wednesday's Mark of Excellence awards.

The group earned the Community Merit award, which goes to a non-profit organization who has made a positive and creative effort to enhance their community.

Member Leslie McLeod says that they were surprised but happy to earn the distinction.

"We're very honoured and excited. We weren't expecting it but are grateful for the award. The Community Club does a lot of work in the community raising money."

The club was established in 1945 and has been promoting the well-being of Watson ever since.

Their efforts in supporting organizations continues on Saturday as they host a cabaret.

"We have 40oz. Philosophy coming out. Doors open at 8pm. It's $25 for a ticket. Come out and have some fun."

Proceeds, as with all over Community Club events, support organizations in Watson.
