Seven community groups in Watson are sharing $13,000 in funds thanks to the town's Community Club.

President Judy Schmid says that their mandate is to be able to help make Watson a more established community.

"We're here for the betterment of the community and we are more than willing to offer our services in a small way at any time as well as creating our own fundraising project."

The club typically sticks to a few key initiatives with slight tweaks each year. This year, however, their events were even more popular, bringing in an extra $5,000 over last year.

"Arts and craft show and sale we host in November is a huge project for us," said Schmid of one of their main fundraisers. "The facility that we use doesn't hold a large amount, but we're usually filled to capacity. Typically in the spring, we hold our Ladies Night Out, which includes a meal, entertainment and silent and penny auctions."

She added that without the help and support of those around the region, being able to directly put money back into the community wouldn't be possible.

"We'd like to thank the local community in advance for their continued support and we're looking forward to next year's happenings. We're a small group, but mighty, and we welcome new members all the time."

The recipients of funds for 2016 were McNab Regional Park, Watson Fire, Watson School Community Council, Quill Plains Arts Council, Watson Care-a-Van, Parkland Regional Library and Watson Museum.
