A 10-year-old boy from Watson is just looking to help out and make things better for people affected by cancer.

Roderick Wilger and his mom Lucinda traveled to Yorkton on Saturday as Roderick took part in the Brayden Ottenbreit Close Cuts for Cancer.

Ottenbreit was diagnosed with cancer in 1998 and passed away in 2000. The annual venture has raised over $800,000 in the 19 years since it began.

Wilger says that by cutting his hair, he just wants to put smiles on faces.

"I want people to feel happy," he said.

Wilger (right) had his hair cut off on Saturday.

In his entry form for the event, Wilger added that he wants kids with cancer to have affordable wigs and to help raise money for cancer research.

Like many, Wilger's family has seen the disease have an impact on them.

Currently, his aunt is battling cancer and is getting treatment in Regina. His grandma and grandpa passed away due to cancer as well.

Wilger had nine inches of hair taken off - all of which will be used to help make wigs for cancer patients.
