The newest Leader of Distinction award winner teaches in Watrous.

Tina Edwards won the Canadian Student Leadership Association Leader of Distinction Award for her role in helping the SRC at her school thrive.

She talks about the feeling of winning the award.

"It definitely was not something I was expecting. It is quite an honour, given the list of people who have won in previous years, so it feels pretty good."

Edwards explains her history with the Winston High School SRC.

"I have been involved in the SRC since the beginning of my teaching career, which has been a good 22 years. Horizon School Division has an initiative called 'Safe and Caring Schools' and the work the SRC does fits nicely into this. It builds a sense of culture within your school."

Edwards describes what she hopes the kids she teaches will take from High School.

"I hope, it's our hope that they realize they were part of a big family here, and we work hard at making sure everybody's needs are met in this building. We just really hope they just take what they learned here, and take it with them."

She won the award at the Sask. Student Leadership Conference in Maple Creek last week.
