You might notice some new trees in Water Ridge Park after Thursday.

The trees are being planted thanks to a partnership of Humboldt Home Hardware, Trees Canada, the City of Humboldt, and the Humboldt Scouts.

Humboldt Home Hardware Owner Dean Possberg said they are planting bigger trees to start with.

"Number one, around the spray park especially there is a lot of activity," Possberg explained. "The larger trees will provide shelter and shade and they stand more chance of survival in an active environment."

Wednesday was National Tree Day, this is the latest project Trees Canada is bringing to the city said Community Adviser Keith Dodge.

"We've been back here two or three times over the years, I think by the cemetery, there is a couple areas in town where we have planted rows of trees. We have planted here(Water Ridge) before as well so it would be nice to come back again next year if Home Hardware wants to put us in again."

They planted five Hot Wing Maples, five Green Spiral Lindens and five Brandon Elms.

Possberg explained why this was so important to be involved with.

"This is just something we wanted to do to give back to the community, our customers and community has supported us over the years and this is just a great opportunity for us to give something back to our community."

Trees Canada and Home Hardware have teamed up on numerous occasions resulting in over 21,000 trees being planted across Canada since 1992.
