The performing arts at Humboldt Collegiate are once again receiving a boost.

Bolt FM and Discover Humboldt donated $1,900 to the program, which will allow for the purchase of new items.

"The money will be used for different musical instruments and possibly some new music," said Arts Teacher Amanda Brochu. "Anything we can do to increase the excitement with the program - the performing arts, the music, or even the band and choir."

Past donations have been used for storage, instruments, music, and other items for each program.

Brochu highlighted what they do, noting the variety of things students can learn and perform.

"We have a music program, a performing arts program, and also the band and choir program," she said. "Throughout the year there is plenty of opportunity for the students to perform. We have variety night, a drama production, and performances at the music festival."

Of course with an offering of the program, comes a need for students to fill spots, and Brochu says that they typically have good support.

"Enrollment is pretty good at HCI. It can always be better of course. We are always looking for ways to increase enrollment and recruit students and retain them throughout their high school years."

She added that one of their current students - Ethyn Beggs - has been recording music in a studio this summer, and may have an opportunity to play during the week of the Canadian Country Music Awards in Saskatoon.
