The brand new Calico Gymnastics facility in Humboldt is progressing nicely.

Tuesday we were given a sneak peak at the 10,000 square foot facility that will finally give the club a permanent home.

Gymnast Heather Graf is excited for the chance to finally compete right here at home.

"By getting this new gym we can host competitions now which means we can be competing in our own gym for a change instead of going somewhere and traveling. Everyone is really excited for it because we have never experienced competing in our own gym and the comfort here."

They already have the Humboldt Invitational meet slated for February.

Calico has been located in the mall, another temporary location on Fourth Avenue, now they have housed the club in the curling rink until they move.

Gymnast Katie MacLean tells us their foam pit and other amenities make their club much safer.

"If you are ever doing a skill like a flip and in the middle you freak out or something goes wrong you can safely land in a whole bunch of foam instead of on a mat which is more dangerous. The ceiling is much higher in this facility so when you are on the uneven bars they are pretty high so it prevents you from kicking it which can be very dangerous."

MacLean adds that there is more space between structures as well which is also safer.

Eden Rogers is also one excited young gymnast looking to advance her skills.

"It's really exciting, for being one of the youngest gymnasts it's going to be really fun. Since we have a foam pit I'm going to be able to try new things that the big girls can do and I've always wanted to try."

The club is hoping to move in October 1st.
