Due to a mild winter, an unfortunate ending has come for a perennial classic winter setting.

The City of Humboldt issued a statement Wednesday saying that with spring-like temperatures throughout a large part of the season, the outdoor rink at St. Dominic School is no longer usable.

On February 19, the city stated that skaters should use extra caution when enjoying the rink, as asphalt was visible in sections of the ice.

Since then, temperatures have remained above seasonal conditions, resulting in the official closure of the venue.

Lights at the rink will be turned off Thursday.
