Cameco Hockey Day in Saskatchewan was a massive hit both on and off the ice for the Town of Wadena.

In total, $101,111 was raised from the five-day event according to chair of the organizing committee, Kent Armbruster.

"When we originally started, we were thinking in the 70-80 (thousand dollar range). As it got closer to the day, it was looking about 85 and we figured if we get 85 everything would have to go perfect," he stated. "In the end it was over 100 so everything went way better than expected."

Funds will go right back in to the Wadena Arena, with improvements being made to the dressing rooms - a project Armbruster says will still take more work.

"Building the two dressing rooms were probably going to be over the hundred thousand already, so this puts a huge dent into that."

The group had strong support as soon as they applied to host the annual event. That showed through right up to completion of the five days on January 17.

"Everybody stepped up and did there jobs. There was no holes and it was just excellent right from start to finish."

The arena was built in the 1960s and hosts a jam packed schedule throughout the winter with 12 teams calling it home.
