The Humboldt Independent Travel Club will be heading off to Vimy Ridge next April.

They had a walk-a-thon yesterday where they walked from the Humboldt Collegiate Institute to the Legion Hall and had some time down in the war museum.

Dave Rowe a teacher at HCI and also the Co-Organizer for the Travel Club explained how they members received pledges for the walk,

"It's the only mandatory fundraiser the travel club is doing and the idea was to get a Vimy for Vimy. The $20.00 bill on the back of it has the Vimy ridge memorial on it and the idea was hopefully the people of Humboldt and area would donate $20.00 to help build an interpretive center at Vimy ridge and to fund our trip."

Rowe talks about the other plans the club has for fundraisers,

"There will be a BBQ later in the year before the end of June, were we will get the proceeds from a BBQ at coop grocery story. Also we have been asked to collect grocery receipts and we will get a percentage of grocery receipts and I think gas receipts as well."

Rowe describes the trip as a trip of a life time,

"The trip is sold out all across Canada, there's no way anyone can officially go on this trip anymore with this tour group."

If you would like to help the travel club out with receipts or donations you can call the HCI and ask for Dave Rowe, Dave Millette, or Margarete Nagy at (306) 682-1010.
