Thanks to a three tiered partnership with the federal, provincial and municipal governments the community of Lanigan is under going water and waste water infrastructure upgrades.

Mayor Andrew Cebryk says they are running into issues with their current system.

"The water that we we're getting is coming from the South Saskatchewan River and it ended up in a reservoir. From there it was pumped into town but with ground water it's very hard to treat and we were running into problems treating it."

The work to expand their lagoon system is now moving along.

Cebryk explains more about the project following that.

"We're putting down two wells and then installing a reverse osmosis system in the plant. We're lucky that we don't have to expand the plant or do very many changes within the structure of the plant to get the RO system in."

They will need to install piping to get water from the wells to the plant, that will occur along Agnew Avenue and on Hoover Street. That work will begin this summer. Traffic will be re-routed at points during that construction.

The $6.1 million project will see $2 million from Ottawa, another $2 million from the province and the Town of Lanigan will cover the remaining $2 million.

"The well digging has started now and once that is done we will be ready for the next phase which is the piping," explained Cebryk.

They are hoping for a completion date of the end of 2017.
