Humboldt residents are getting set to enjoy Halloween tomorrow.

The celebration will of course involve children collecting candy from door to door, which causes Safe Communities Humboldt to remind parents to be cautious with trick or treaters.

Shari Hinz is the Executive Director for Safe Communities Humboldt.

She gives some helpful tips for those who will be out trick or treating.

"have something that is really visible. You want to make sure it's got some reflective properties for sure, you want to make sure the kids can see where they are going as well as they're crossing streets and so on, you want to make sure they can see and be seen as well, so that's very important. Check that candy when it comes home, try not to let kids, I know its tough, but try not to let them have any before the adults in the household go through and check to make sure if it's safe."

Hinz says safety for kids on Hallowe'en is an important topic.

"We definitely want to remind parents to keep their kids safe involved with the Halloween season for sure. One of the initiatives we're supporting is the Access Communications Pumpkin Patrol. That's just a really great service they're providing to kids in the community that are out tick or treating, just to have their vehicles as a safe point if they do need help."

Hinz explains what to look for when looking through candy.

"If anything looks like it's been previously opened and re-closed, obviously that's something to watch for. Sometimes things can be hidden within. Just really, you want to have a good look-through, and that it appears to be in it's original packaging, unopened. And know the neighborhood your kids are trick or treating in as well."
