One of the two accused men in a recent drug bust in Melfort has made his first court appearance.

Robert Sauter, a 46-year-old from Melfort was released on bail Tuesday morning after appearing in Melfort Provincial Court.

The crown and defense agreed to a $200 non-cash recognizance for Sauter. The agreement means Sauter must follow conditions of his release. Failure to do so will result in him being responsible for the $200.

The case will resume on May 23 in Melfort.

He is facing charges including possession of meth, possession of morphine for trafficking, storage of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm and failing to comply with an undertaking.

Among the terms of Sauter's release is that he is to have no contact with the other man accused, Mario Benincasa. He will also have a set curfew and cannot consume any alcohol.

On May 4, police were led to the drug bust after stopping a vehicle during the afternoon in Melfort.
