The Saskatchewan Trappers Association annual convention is back in Humboldt again this weekend.

They are set up over at the Uniplex in the meeting rooms and Jubilee Hall, they will hold their banquet at the Bella Vista Inn Saturday night.

Wrangler Hamm is a director with the STA, he says they have a long standing relationship with the city.

"I think it's been a great area for us as far as trappers to set it up as a a local centre for people to come and go. It helps us keep our costs down from the larger centres but it also gives back to the communities too, it's a good event for everyone."

Hamm admits the convention is likely not going anywhere soon nor is the sport of trapping.

"The trapping heritage is growing stronger and stronger, over the last couple years it's gotten bigger and we're seeing more and more people involved. It's not only people who like the outdoors but hunters and anglers, people wanting to get back with their kids outdoors and have some fun. There is nothing better than watching a family come in and get into this great sport, it's a great heritage."

Friday's agenda features their annual general meeting plus a couple of demonstrations and speakers.

Saturday's itinerary is jam packed, and it's this day Hamm reiterates how nice it is to see families and the public check out what they have to offer.

"It's going to start at 9 o'clock, it's a lot of demonstrations, we're going to have some competitions, there's a lot of stuff going on for the kids, we're going to have some games set up for them. After the event is done at about 4 o'clock we head back to the Bella Vista for our banquet. We do our live auction, we give out some awards, it's just a great time for everyone."

Tickets are still available for their awards night, they are $25 dollars for adults, $10 for 12-16 year-olds, and under that is free.

You can get them at the Uniplex, that's where the convention portion is taking place.
