Two Olympians are in Humboldt ahead of Friday's Calico Gymnastics Club "Dream Big, Achieve Bigger" fundraising gala.

Humboldt's own Brianne Theisen-Eaton and Ashton Eaton stopped by the radio station Monday to help promote the event which will help the club raise money for a new building..

The track and field power couple call Oregon home now, but Brianne beams about getting back home.

"I think when I was in high school I was so excited to to move on with my life and move out of Humboldt and the older I get the more anxious to come home. It's just nostalgic and I love spending time with my family because I don't get to see them a lot and my grandparents and stuff. I enjoy being back."

Ashton, who was born in Portland, Oregon but spent the majority of his childhood in Bend, Oregon says he appreciates the small town feel of Humboldt and is happy to support his wife's hometown.

"At some point you can just find out stuff about a person's background, you eventually just end up knowing the people you live next to. I really like that here and I saw the support Brianne got growing up from that kind of atmosphere."

Tickets are still available at for $60/each or $450/table of eight. You can get them at Pharmasave or by calling 682-2041.

Ashton gave us a teaser about what attendees can expect.

"You can expect us to tell our stories about how we got to where we are, the things that led to our success and try to impart a little of the things that we learned along the way that were difficult or we thought helped us."

Calico has been fundraising for a new home ever since renovations were set to begin at the Humboldt Mall over a year ago. A new building is crucial for the estimated 200 plus athletes that perform every year in Calico.

That's why it was a no-brainer Brianne returned home to help the club out.

"I want to give back to my community because they have done so much for me so that's one of the first reasons. The second reason is because I know I speak for both Ashton and I when we say that we're passionate about young kids having the opportunity to do sport because we were given that opportunity."

The club is currently operating out of a temporary space in the city's industrial area on 4th Avenue.
