Gardening enthusiasts in the area were encouraged to attend the first 'Seedy Sunday' event, held Sunday in Middle Lake.

Event organizer, Shirley Guest, says it's her love of gardening using local seeds that motivated her to host the seed swap and sale of locally grown, and heritage and wildflower seeds.

Guest says many similar swaps take place throughout the prairie provinces, but this was the first of its kind in Middle Lake, where she resides.

"Farming and locally-grown food are really important to this area, and it's a way to feature the importance of that here," says Guest.

Prairie Garden Seeds, Blazing Star Wildflower Seed Company, and Parson's Honey were featured.

The swap and sale also featured two farming-related presentations including one about saving seeds and food sovereignty.

"It's a wonderful afternoon of information and things to look at, seeds to purchase," says Guest. She says the event at the multiplex was open to all and free of charge.
