Inspired to enter a contest by one of their suppliers, the team from Watrous Bakery and Coffee Shop has been nominated in the "Sweetest Bakery in Canada" contest.

Ray Suik has owned the bakery for 29 years and says being noted on a national or western Canada level would be rewarding.

"It would be awesome(to win); to be recognized as one of the top bakeries in Canada," he says.

The bakery has a dedicated following, especially when it comes to their donuts.

"I love the apple fritters! When they're still a little warm, you can't beat a warm apple fritter," says Suik of his favorite pastry.

Voting is now being accepted online, with the final results to be determined by the end of July.

A $10,000 prize, a feature in The Baker's Journal publication and a celebratory party for the Watrous Bakery and Coffee Shop's customers is on the line.
