Even with temperatures colder than usual this time of year, it didn't stop people from taking part in the Youth Ice Fishing Derby.

On Sunday, March 3rd people within and around Fishing Lake First Nation took part in the 2nd Annual Youth Ice Fishing Derby. Anyone could set up a fishing shack on Fishing Lake to go ice fishing for the day.

"The fishing derby is to help the people get outside and enjoy themselves. We just started it last year and the children really enjoyed it so we thought we'd run it again," said Derek Sunshine, Chief of Fishing Lake First Nation.

"We don't visit as much as we used to years ago, so bringing people to an event, and have some interaction with other people, especially during the cold weather."

Youth were also able to win prizes such as a 60 Inch smart TV, PS4 Bundle, and IPad for coming out to fish. People could take in a good time with the community and lunch with beverages.
