Elementary and high school curling teams from Annaheim, Bruno, Englefeld, LeRoy, Muenster and Humboldt all gathered at the Humboldt Curling Club for a visit and training session with Saskatchewan's number one curling team.

Team Steve Laycock with St. Gregor's Kirk and Dallan Muyres, are making a tour around the province in curling clubs, spreading the knowledge of the game down to younger generations.

Laycock, the team's skip, talks about what he hopes the kids are learning from their sessions.

"I think they have a lot of fun. We have a variety of age groups, for some of the younger ones we make sure they have a good time out there and get some exercise and maybe see it as a sport they could do in the future. We also had some older kids that were already competitive curlers and were eager to learn some of the stuff we do to be great curlers."

Laycock says the experience is something that was important for his own development as a player growing up, as well as his teammates.

"I think it's really important. We had these types of opportunities when we were kids to see some of the top curlers and learn from them. It's part of why we got where we are, and I think it's important that we give that opportunity to other kids now."

The number one ranked team in Saskatchewan is also fresh off of a Tankard final loss to the Adam Casey rink out of Regina.

Laycock explains what's next this season for their Curling Tour.

"We're lucky, even though we didn't win the provincials this year, we still have a lot of exciting events to play in. For some people it's the end of the road once provincials are done, but we still have three Grand Slams left. We go to the Elite 10 in Nova Scotia in the middle of March, and then have the Players Championship and Champions Cup in Toronto and Calgary in April."

This isn't the only stop that the Laycock team will be making in the area.

The number one ranked team in Saskatchewan will also be making a stop in Cudworth Thursday from 4 PM until 7 PM.
