In the summer heat, few things go down better than a cool, sweet, summer treat.

Celebrating International Ice Cream Day, the Humboldt and District Museum is letting you see how it is done.

"We're having our annual ice cream day," said Jean Price, Program Coordinator. "People are invited to come down to the museum, see how we make the homemade, traditional ice cream. Give the machine a bit of a turn, see how it's done and we will also have homemade ice cream for sale for one dollar per cup."

International Ice Cream Day is recognized on Sunday, but the museum will be hosting a day of their own from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday.

Price says that their mixed recipe doesn't involve a lot of ingredients, just plenty of turning.

"It's a lot of milk, cream, whipping cream, bit of vanilla flavour and we whip it all up in a special machine where the ice is packed all around with a little bit of salt to keep the ice lasting longer."

"At the end of about 40 minutes, we have ice cream," she said.

Asked how the ice cream tastes, Price confirmed it will be enjoyed by those who stop by the museum.

"It's fantastic, and with International Ice Cream Day falling on the weekend, we're very happy we have delicious ice cream to offer."
