A weekend full of song, dance, and literature took place in Humboldt Friday and Saturday.

the event concluded with Mary Harelkin Bishop's reading at the Humboldt Gallery.

Bishop talks about her first time in Humboldt.

"My first time in Humboldt was many years ago and I probably had two books published. I remember being at the public library, which is a wonderful little library, and having practically wall to wall students."

Bishop has lived in Saskatoon since the age of 12, and considers herself a prairie person.

The author of 7 books, including a 5 book series related to the Tunnels of Moose Jaw, writes both fiction and non-fiction work.

But she explains it wasn't easy getting published at first.

"From the time I had the idea in my head until I actually held that book in my hands. Mostly they take about a year and a half to two years, but that one actually sat on the shelf for about 6 or 8 months because Coteau books wanted it to come out with a history of Moose Jaw book. They thought the two would do well together, and I was actually a little disappointed that it was sitting on the shelf waiting."

Bishop talks about the possibility of making a book about Humboldt.

"I preticularily love quirky history, or just something that's just a bit out of the ordinary. I noticed as we were driving into town today, about 10 or 15 kilometres out of town, was a sign that said "Old Humboldt Site." And now, here in the Gallery, we just picked up a book that talks about the history of Humboldt, and where Humboldt used to be. That's peaked my interest right there, whether it becomes a book or not, I'm not sure."

Bishop is a Saskatchewan author that wrote the tunnels of time series.
