The sixth annual STARS lottery was launched Thursday in Saskatoon.

Over $4 million in prizes are up for grabs this year including two different show homes with one in Regina and another in the Bridge City.

Melfort resident Jesse Fredin spoke during the launch, she was a patient of STARS following a horrific car accident when she was in grade 12.

"I think everyone should be buying STARS lottery tickets just because someone you know hasn't flown on it doesn't mean they won't, or even yourself might."

Frdedin's accident was just one of over 80 flights in our region in 2016, overall STARS has flown almost 4,200 missions since 2012.

The fundraiser makes up for 20 percent of the air ambulances' annual budget so this is extremely important according to Chief Executive Officer Andrea Robertson.

"The benefit is it could be pretty fun for you because you might end up with a gorgeous home, or a trip or a vehicle but the benefit is you buy a lottery ticket and then the next time you see us flying overhead you can be assured that you've contributed to keep us flying."

Ticket prices range from $60/each up to a 12 pack for $375. There is a also a 50/50 jackpot expected to climb to about $800,000. Ticket deadlines are June 28th for the early bird portion, all ticket sales will cease on July 19th.

The lottery usually generates about $2 million in proceeds. You can purchase tickets here.
