A 56-year-old man from Star City has been fined $11,500 following an investigation into the illegal sale of wild goose meat.

David Tschetter pleaded guilty to wildlife trafficking charges and was ordered to process 350 pounds of goose meat into sausage to donate to food banks in the area.

An undercover investigation revealed that high volumes of bird meat had been coming into the shop, located on the Star City Hutterite Colony.

Although officers had given verbal and written warnings of the selling of wild goose meat being illegal, it continued to be sold.

The province says that there were five instances over a three year span from 2014 to 2017 that undercover officers visited the shop and were able to purchase the meat.
