St. Peter's College in Muenster is hosting a reading Monday at 7:00pm in the student lounge.

Two authors, including Sheri Benning who is originally from the Humboldt area, and Méira Cook will be sharing some of their work.

"I'm going to be reading from my most recent collection of poetry, and I believe Méira will be reading from her novel and another book of poetry," stated Benning.

Growing up on a farm just outside Humboldt, Benning was a graduate of HCI before attending St. Pete's.

"I went to university there for my first two years and just loved the atmosphere."

As far as where she got her start in writing, Benning noted it was a simple pen to paper approach.

"I would scribble, my parents were very supportive of that. St. Pete's is where I found my courage for [writing]."

She has published three books of poetry, and also writes fiction and essays.

She has been nominated for many awards, and won the Alfred G. Bailey Award.

Benning recently completed her PhD at the University Of Glasgow, and is a postdoctoral fellow in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Regina.

Cook, meanwhile, has published five poetry collections. She won CBC's Poetry Prize in 2007, and the Walrus Poetry Prize in 2012.

Her first novel The House on Sugarbrush Road, won McNally Robinson Manitoba's Book of the Year Award in 2013.
