St. Peter's College was the site of a University of Saskatchewan Information Night on Wednesday, April 10th.

First-year students heading off to the U of S Main Campus and current St. Peter's students wrapping up their first year of studies attended to find out what awaits them in the fall. The information in the presentation covered a range of topics from finances to academic information and on-site facilities and programs.

Rebecca Godhe, a current St. Peter's student, explained the most exciting prospect of continuing her studies on the main campus, "Meeting new people and exploring new classes, new areas. Being somewhere new to hang out."

On the flip side, when Godhe was asked to talk about the most intimidating thing about going to the new campus, she stated, "It's a lot bigger and it's a bigger transition. It will be further away from home and not as many of my people close." She elected to attend the information session to get a handle on what to expect in the fall.

The evening's presenters, Student Services Officers Alison Hinz and Matthew Washkowsky from St. Peter's, are aware of the challenges students face on several fronts when heading off to a large university. The duo understands that university study is a costly investment and they hope to prepare students to be aware of the costs, but also to be aware of the resources available to them. Washkowsky broke down the math for students attending university, "We did the numbers and their study at university works out to $29 an hour. For our current students, we feel we have prepared them academically, but we want to be sure they can succeed overall with just living in Saskatoon and knowing what they have available."

The University of Saskatchewan affords a wide variety of supports for its students as does its affiliate college at St. Peter's. The evening was designed to ensure that students would be able to navigate the system and take advantage of those amenities and supports.
