St. Mary's Villa opened up the Poth Family Lounge on Sunday.

With the help of 89 year-old Vera Poth cutting the ribbon, the Lounge officially opened it's doors.

Executive Director of the St. Mary's Villa Foundation Board Donna Muench describes what the lounge will be used for.

"So the Poth family lounge is a family area. Priority is given to family members if they have a resident that is in palliative or sick. It is a place for them to go , to rest, to gather."

The Lounge can also be used for families visiting from out of town.

Muench explains the meaning behind naming the lounge after Henry Poth.

"It was originally named after Henry Poth who was instrumental in getting the St. Joseph's Wing built back in the 90's. It is the newest addition to the Villa which was initially built in the 60's. We did not want to change the name, so we kept it the same and just added 'family lounge'."

Muench explains why there was a need for the space.

"All the spaces within the Villa are public. The rooms are small, when family come in, the only place to gather is in the public areas. There was never anything private, and that is why it came about because it was a great need for a long time."

The St. Mary's Villa would like to thank everyone who donated.
