When the sweet smell of snowmobile exhaust hangs in the air on a Saturday morning, it can only mean a sled rally. St. Gregor was the place for the annual St. Gregor Community Club Snowmobile Rally and Social on Saturday, January 11. In spite of the stiff winds making riding a bit blustery, a few dozen sleds started to roll into the Community Hall for registration shortly after 11 am.

Darren Yungmann serves on the hall board and is one of the chief organizers of the annual event. Yungmann says that the event is one of many hosted by the club to keep the doors of the Community Hall open.

“It’s all for the community. In the past, one of our local hockey teams, the St. Gregory Aces used to run the rally, but they decided to hand it off to the community, so now it is a community-run function. It’s one of the many we do in town to help keep the lights on.”

While there is no set course for the riders, many of them make their way up to the Annaheim warm-up shack and then on to the Lake Lenore Fish Smoker.

In addition to the rally hands, there were plenty of raffles thanks to area donors. Riders returned in the evening for a social and well-deserved warm-up.

It’s another example of volunteers coming together to support the heart of the community, the hall.
